Description

Sticky Panfried Garlic Lime Tofu offers irresistible flavors with its garlic and lime combination, perfect for a quick, healthy meal or dinner. Enjoy the crispy texture and vibrant sauce that will make this dish a favorite!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 lime, zest and juice
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tsp sambal oelek
  • 5 tbsp soy sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 15 oz super-firm or extra-firm tofu, pressed and drained
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 12 green onions, sliced on the diagonal
  • ½ cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped
  • 1 tbsp toasted white sesame seeds, garnish

Instructions

  • Combine soy sauce, lime juice and zest, sesame oil, sambal oelek, water and brown sugar in a bowl to create the sauce.
  • Cut pressed tofu into ½-inch cubes and marinate with half of the sauce for at least 20 minutes.
  • Coat marinated tofu with cornstarch before cooking for extra crispiness.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet and add the marinated tofu, frying until golden brown (about 6-8 minutes).
  • Simmer remaining sauce in a saucepan for 5-10 minutes to thicken.
  • Whisk cornstarch into a small amount of the simmering sauce and return to the saucepan, cooking until thick.
  • Pour thickened sauce over the cooked tofu, stirring to coat and simmer for a minute before serving.

Notes

Press tofu well to remove excess moisture for better crispiness.
Avoid overcrowding the pan to ensure even browning of tofu.
Adjust the spiciness by varying the amount of sambal oelek.
