Description

These Sour Cream Sugar Cookies are soft, fluffy, and lightly tangy, making them a delightful treat that’s perfect for any occasion! With simple prep and delicious flavor, they’re ideal for holiday gatherings or everyday snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened, for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Beat softened butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in egg, sour cream, and vanilla.
  • Gradually fold in dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Chill divided dough in discs for at least an hour.
  • Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness, cut shapes, and transfer to baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden and centers are soft.
  • Beat softened butter for frosting, add powdered sugar, and mix with vanilla and milk until smooth.
  • Decorate cooled cookies with frosting, food coloring, and sprinkles, if desired.

Notes

Using room-temperature butter and eggs helps achieve a better blend for smooth dough.
Chill the dough to avoid spreading while baking, resulting in thicker cookies.
For a fun twist, you can add almond extract or citrus zest to the dough.
