Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter to be browned
- 1 ½ cups light brown sugar loosely packed
- 2 eggs lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- maldon flaked salt for topping
Instructions
- Melt the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently until golden brown and nutty, about 5-7 minutes. Cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, whisk the brown sugar with the browned butter until smooth. Mix in the eggs and vanilla extract until combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined with some lumps.
- Fold in the milk chocolate and dark chocolate chips evenly with a spatula.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan, smoothing the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden at the edges and a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
- Sprinkle Maldon flaked salt on top of warm bars to enhance flavor.
- Let cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then lift out using parchment and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice into squares or rectangles.
Notes
For an extra touch, try adding nuts such as chopped pecans or walnuts.
Ensure to monitor the browning of the butter closely to avoid burning.
These cookie bars can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
