Description

Galentine’s Brunch Foods : Heart-Shaped Macarons are delightful treats that combine irresistible flavor with simple preparation. Featuring almond flour and a hint of vanilla, these macarons are perfect for any occasion, especially for celebrating friendships!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (100g) almond flour*
  • 1½ cups (180g) powdered sugar*
  • 3 large egg whites around 90 grams, at room temperature*
  • ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon red gel food coloring*
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Print out 4 copies of the Heart Template.
  • Sift the almond flour and powdered sugar together twice into a large bowl and set aside.
  • In a large bowl or stand mixer, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar on medium-low speed until soft peaks form.
  • Slowly add the granulated sugar and continue beating until almost stiff peaks form.
  • Mix in the red gel food coloring and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  • Fold in one-third of the dry ingredients into the egg white mixture, then fold in the remaining dry ingredients until the batter forms a 'figure 8' without breaking.
  • Scoop the batter into a piping bag with a small round tip.
  • Place two heart templates on a cookie sheet and cover with parchment paper. Pipe the batter into the hearts, shaping the tips with a toothpick.
  • Tap the pan on the counter several times to remove air bubbles and pop any bubbles on the surface with a toothpick.
  • Allow the macarons to rest in a dry area for 45 minutes to an hour until the tops are dry to the touch.
  • Preheat the oven to 315°F/160°C.
  • Bake the macarons one sheet at a time for 13 minutes, allowing them to rise and form 'feet'.
  • Let the macarons cool on a cooling rack for 10 minutes before removing from the parchment paper and cooling completely.

Notes

Use room temperature egg whites for better volume.
Ensure the macarons rest adequately before baking for the perfect texture.
Store macarons in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
