  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup butter (unsalted)
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons italian seasoning
  • ½ cup white wine (such as sauvignon blanc)
  • 1½ cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  • Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions, reserving ½ cup of pasta water before draining.
  • In a large skillet, combine olive oil and unsalted butter, melting them over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until softened.
  • Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and italian seasoning.
  • Pour in the white wine and simmer for about 3 minutes to reduce.
  • Add the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Incorporate the reserved pasta water, stirring while simmering for another 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Remove the skillet from heat and add grated parmesan cheese, stirring to combine.
  • Combine the cooked spaghetti with the sauce, tossing well to coat.
  • Garnish with additional parmesan cheese and sprinkle with red pepper flakes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, use freshly grated parmesan cheese.
Feel free to add cooked chicken or shrimp for added protein.
Adjust red pepper flakes based on your spice preference.
