Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla to the mixture and beat until combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and sea salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate and crushed candy canes, reserving some for topping.
  • Scoop the dough into tablespoons, cover with plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
  • Once chilled, place dough balls on baking sheets and bake for about 9 minutes until edges are golden.
  • Let cookies cool on baking sheets before transferring to a wire rack and sprinkle reserved candy canes on top.

You can substitute different types of chocolate for a unique flavor twist.
