Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 large egg yolks
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 10 ounces chocolate chips, milk or semi-sweet, your choice!
- flaked salt, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Heat a 12-inch oven-safe skillet (preferably cast iron) on low heat for 5 minutes. Add the butter and let it melt completely. Stir in both sugars using a wooden spoon and turn off the heat under the skillet.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and egg yolks. Add to the skillet mixture and mix quickly to avoid cooking the eggs. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the skillet mixture, stirring until just combined. The mixture will be thick. Wipe any excess flour from the skillet edges with a damp paper towel if needed.
- Fold in the chocolate chips. Bake the cookie in the skillet for 20 to 25 minutes, until it's mostly set in the center. Sprinkle with flaked sea salt before serving.
- Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream.
Notes
For a richer flavor, try using brown sugar exclusively instead of a mix.
Ensure to stir quickly after adding the egg to prevent cooking from residual heat.
